Christian Nielsen appointed new CEO of Sonion

Copenhagen, 27 August 2021

Sonion is pleased to announce the appointment of Christian Nielsen as new CEO and President of Sonion.

Christian Nielsen has been with the company for more than 10 years, most recently as Executive Vice President, Finance & Global Operations.

Christian Nielsen is replacing Niels Svenningsen, who has decided to resign from his position.

“I am very pleased that Christian Nielsen has agreed to become the new CEO of Sonion. Christian has vast experience and in-depth knowledge of Sonion and of our markets. He has shown great leadership in his previous positions at the company, is very well-respected and also brings a strong track
record and international experience from positions earlier in his career,” says Walter Thygesen, Chairman of the Sonion Board.

“In addition, I would like to thank Niels for his dedicated efforts and leadership of Sonion in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. The Board has accommodated Niels’ decision to step down, and I wish Niels all the best in his future endeavours,” adds Walter Thygesen.

Christian Nielsen has been Executive Vice President of Sonion and stationed in Vietnam since 2017. Besides being responsible for Finance, IT and HR, he has been responsible for Sonion’s operations in Vietnam and the Philippines, including more than 6,000 employees. He was CFO and Executive Vice President of Sonion from 2011-2017.

“I am proud to accept the position as CEO and thrilled to take the full leadership of the opportunities that lie ahead for Sonion, and I look forward to working with the accomplished management group of the company. Having spent the last four years stationed in Vietnam, I am also looking forward to returning to Denmark and using my experience and competencies to further develop Sonion,” says Christian Nielsen.

Christian Nielsen will start as CEO on 1 September.

Christian Nielsen’s prior positions include COO of the Finish logistics company K. Hartwall (2006-2009), CEO of Belgian technology leader Bekaert (2002-2006) and CFO of the Finish food company Fazer (1997-2001).
